I thought I would write today about the Wellness Center here at DMU. For those of you who love working out, this is the place for you! And, for those of you who hate working out (like me!), this is also the place for you!
The Wellness Center has everything a person would expect from a fitness facility – free weights, an indoor track, cardio machines, intramurals, a basketball court, and fitness classes (including spinning, yoga, pilates, and more). What makes the Wellness Center special, however, are the things that you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see. These are the things that help me – a person who generally does not enjoy working out – stay on track in my fitness plan.
The Wellness Center staff is truly amazing! They are so motivating, helpful, and friendly! I get tons of encouragement from the staff – they notice when I’ve been working out and let me know I’m doing a good job! In addition, they provide delicious recipes and information about healthy eating.
Another thing about the Wellness Center that I love is that the cardio machines each have individual televisions attached to them. I just need to bring my own headphones and I can watch whatever I want while I’m working out. This is a great way to distract myself from the fact that I’m exercising!
The Wellness Center also offers Personal Wellness Profiles for all of its students, faculty, and staff. Free of charge, the PWP gives me a fitness evaluation, health risk assessment, and a lipid profile. The PWP helps me know what I need to do to maintain good health, both physically and mentally.
Below is a picture of the DMU Wellness Center. If you become a student here, maybe I’ll see you around (when I’m not watching the TV on the cardio machine!).
